Taylor has developed an obsession with the film Finding Nemo, which is a welcome change from Scrat (Ice Age 1&2) but I'm getting fed up of watching it now lol. I never really liked Nemo for some reason, i can cope with Ice Age(s) as they're both funny but Nemo bores me and Taylor watches it over and over again so I'm going insane at the moment!!
Things have been going well over the weekend. Tony's sister came on Friday to give us some advice about schools etc. She said mainstreaming him is a brilliant idea and although it would do us some good going and looking at a Special Needs School not to send him unless it's absolutely necessary as he will pick up too many bad habits like hand flapping and rocking and it might delay his speech even more and he may also fall behind in his social development skills as because it's for autistic children they are all going to be the same but varied cases or severity and it won't help him as much as a mainstream school will. I was really pleased when she told us that as i had started doubting myself if mainstreaming him was the best thing to do and now she's kind of restored my faith in him. I guess it was me i was thinking of not him which i find myself doing a lot of but unintentionally. She told us that they won't take him at school until they have somebody in place for him on that first day so not to worry if he can't start dead on the first day back at school. We need to go to the school and let them know what is going on and show then our diagnosis in writing (not that they won't believe us) so they know his exact diagnosis and can add it to his application form and so they know what they're dealing with. I'm going to leave that until after Xmas though. I'm hoping his appointment to go and look around Broadfield will be before Xmas so we can get that out of the way. I think other than that we're all done now until after Xmas. His next appointment with Ailsa (behavioural psychologist) is on the 14th Jan and unless anything crops up before then that's it except getting in touch with Dana's school and going to see them.
Ailsa is going to send us a sleep chart through the post (which i had hoped would be here by now) for us to chart his sleep patterns (or lack of lol) so that when we see her again we can discuss it and see what we can change and make better to see how he copes. After that she said we'd look into other methods and if needs be look at drugs (herbal and prescription) but she suggested finding other ways first which I agree with. Although the drugs sound like a quick fix I'd rather see if we can find a better way to get him to sleep at nights.
Mary (lady from Holly House) came to see us on Friday to fill in his Disability forms in and she was a great help and knew what she was doing. Her having first hand dealings with Taylor helped too. She asked some bizarre questions or what i thought seemed bizarre but they must have been relevant otherwise she wouldn't have asked. She asked us if he hits the TV, is he safe sat on a chair on his own, does he slam doors and the one that i found really bizarre was what position does he sleep in when he's in bed. He tends to sleep on his side or his back but does occasionally sleep on his stomach, i guess whatever position he finds most comfiest like everybody!! I'd wondered if she was asking in case he was in danger of suffocating at night but he never stays in one position for any length of time. I went to the toilet last night about 9pm and he was asleep on his back, at 9.20pm when i went to brush my teeth he was on his tummy and 5 mins later when i was on way back to bed from brushing my teeth he was on his side!!
He slept pretty well last night, he went to bed at 8pm and was asleep by 8.30pm, he woke up at 12.32am for his milk which he'd knocked onto the floor and couldn't find and went straight back to sleep. I don't know if he woke again after that as i was completely out of it but he did get up early this morning. Tony got up with him and i remember him coming into bedroom to get a banana and waking me up for a kiss then he covered me up and said "good night moma" then disappeared!! He has been up all day and hasn't been back to bed at all this afternoon, we fetched him up to bed at 7pm like normal and he finally went to sleep at 9.30pm.
Tony finishes work on Friday for Xmas so I'm happy about that, it will give us time to spend together for a few days before kids break up from school and it also gives me a bit of a break and a lie in and extra help in the mornings. I need to find out tomorrow when Taylor's Nursery Vouchers finish as he will be back to his 3 days when they do and he finishes on Xmas Eve at 1pm. He normally starts at 1pm and finishes at 5.30pm but Nursery are closing at 2pm so they've swapped his session to a morning one for that day so he still gets to go. That's going to be fun to see how he copes with that change. I don't think it will bother him as long as i can get him up for that time. He doesn't always wake up until 9am and then he won't come down for at least an hour after that as he likes to play in his bedroom or watch a DVD before he comes down. Depending what time he wakes up i might have to wake him up about 7.30am and leave him to come down when he's ready, he could be okay for 8.30am in time to get him dressed and be there for 9am. We shall see. xXx
