Jumble Aid - Great Way To Help Chartiy

Jumble Aid (<--- Click to take you to the webiste)

How It Works

In a nutshell

  1. When someone has an unwanted item that they wish to use to raise funds for their chosen charity they simply post it on the site – we call these gifts.
  2. Anyone who would like to take a gift registers their interest by making a pledge that they are prepared to pay if successful.
  3. The successful Seeker makes their payment and then collection or delivery is organised between the two.
  4. The payment does not go to JumbleAID but directly into a Charities Trust Account. Charities Trust are themselves a registered charity and are the country’s second largest HM Customs & Revenues approved Payroll Giving Agency.
  5. They process all donations, adding GiftAid where applicable and distribute the funds, less transaction charges, to the nominated charities.
  6. Not a penny of any donation goes to JumbleAID.
Below are further details about the process and how it works – Happy JumbleAIDing!

In detail

JumbleAID is free for everyone to use, all you have to do is register.
Once registered you have two choices, you can be a ‘Gifter’, a ‘Seeker’ or both (so that’s 3 choices then!).

As a Gifter you can:

  • Convert unwanted stuff into valuable funds for your chosen charity
  • Keep stuff out of landfill
  • De-clutter your space
  • See all pledges placed against your gifts
  • Select the winner of your gifts
  • Pass items on to people who have a use for them or a real need
  • Offer stuff to a seeker who has placed a ‘Wanted Ad’ – this would help your charity too
  • Keep track of how much you have helped to raise for your chosen charities
  • Create a Group Scheme and keep track of your combined efforts
  • Join in with the JumbleAID Community Forum

As a Seeker you can:

  • Search for specific items that you want
  • Browse the site for items available locally
  • Browse the site for items available in aid of your chosen charity
  • Watch gifts you are interested in
  • Place sealed pledges for gifts – only the Gifter gets to see these
  • Place Wanted Ads for items you are looking for
  • Place JumbleALERTS that will notify you of the listing of a matching item
  • Keep track of how much you have helped to raise for your chosen charity
  • Create a Group Scheme and keep track of your combined efforts
  • Join in with the JumbleAID Community Forum

The process

Having registered, a Gifter places an item on the site – it’s quick and easy.
When thinking about your gifts consider grouping small items together – for instance 5 Thriller Novels or 2 CDs.
When listing an item you give it a title and select a category. Imagine what words you would use to search for this item.
You then select a button to show the general condition of the item – don’t over do it!
You can upload up to 3 images of the item – think about what you would like to see if you were a Seeker. If you use images that are representative of the gift but not the actual item please make this quite clear in the description.
You then complete a short description of the item (be truthful and accurate please!).
You place a ‘Target Pledge’ on the item. This gives the Seeker an indication as to how much you are hoping to raise. It is NOT a reserve price and Seekers may pledge less than your target. Be aware that if you place too high a target pledge, it may put Seekers off.
You then select your chosen charity to benefit from the pledge. You can select any UK registered charity or worthy cause that is registered with the Charity Commission. If your charity is not listed, please let us know and we’ll add them.
In selecting how long you want your listing to last, think about how quickly you want to get rid of your item. The longer it is listed, the more chance Seekers have of seeing it. If you have an item that you want to move quickly you can list it as a ‘Get It Now’ listing. This means that any Seeker that pledges on or over your target pledge, wins your gift immediately.
Finally you select your collection or delivery options. Your choice here will probably be determined by the nature if the gift. If it is bulky it might be collection only – then again you might have a van or a trailer. If it is a small item that would fit in an envelope or a parcel then you may opt for the delivery option. As a Gifter you may consider it worth while paying the postage on a small item in return for a valuable donation to your charity. On the other hand you might opt for the Seeker to pay. In this case it is between you and the seeker to get payment from one to another. You could use postal orders, send stamps, cheques or use PayPal. We have included a link on the site to the Royal Mail Price Finder to help you calculate the cost of delivery.
You can preview the listing before you actually list the item.
You will be informed by email and through our messaging system of all the progress of your Gift Listings and when a listing ends you select the lucky recipient of your gift.
Having registered, a Seeker is able to make a pledge for any gift that they are interested in. The pledge is sealed, nobody else sees it. All you can see as a Seeker is the number of pledges that have been made.
When a Seeker wins a gift they are asked to fulfil their pledge. When this has been successfully received into the Charity Trust Account both parties are informed and the transfer of the gift is done. Both Gifter and Seeker are given email details of each other to aid communication in finalising the collection and delivery details. It is their choice if they wish to exchange telephone numbers but this often helps.
