Taylor's usual TA (Miss B) has been off sick for 6 weeks now and nobody knows whether or not she will be going back. This report has been done by his stand-in TA, Miss K who has had him every afternoon for the past 6 weeks.
I work with Taylor on a one to one basis providing academic social and emotional support. There are boundaries and sanctions in place if he is unkind to others. Taylor is aware of these. For example, he is rewarded with praise and stickers for good behaviour and is spoken to and given time out when he is unkind to children or adults. He has a structured routine and is comfortable throughout the school day.
Taylor's progress in his development varies from time to time. I feel his progress can be influenced by how settled or unsettled he can be on one particular day. However in the past few weeks I feel his interactive skills have developed slightly. He seems settled and focused from time to time particularly when playing in a small group of 3-4 children. He asks for things from them and suggests ideas and games to play. He becomes angry if toys aren't given to him straight away.
Taylor responds well to calm, quiet tone of voice. He is easily distracted when angry by reasoning with him and suggesting reading a book or going on the laptop. Taylor works mostly with his support. Attempts are continuously made to include him into focused groups in the classroom in which depending on his mood he can either be very disruptive in, or occasionally settled.
I feel Taylor is now at a stage where he can be left alone to work independently for up to ten minutes and should be encouraged to do so.
Taylor can be very aggressive and harmful to anybody around him. He has hurt me on many occasions by kicking, scratching and biting. He has hurt other children and staff too.
