HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Thank you to everybody who has been sending me emails asking if everything is OK. I can assure you everything is fine and i do apologise for not blogging for a long time. Apart from a few technical glitches with the PC and Laptop i generally haven't seemed to find the time to update, as well as going through a phase of feeling sorry for myself due to all the issues with Taylor's school, but things although still strained in that area seem to be on the up, so faith is restored, for now!!

I won't bore you all with the inns and outs of what has been happening with the school issues other than we have looked into transferring him to a special needs school, which one and when we are unsure of yet but it does get complicated as there is so much involved in making it happen. Taylor is now (as of 4 weeks ago) in full time school (9am-3.30pm) and seems to have finally settled down but I'm still not convinced it's the best place for him to be. I will keep you informed of the developments regarding this issue as and when the wheels are set in motion.

Well, where do i begin...
My mother kindly woke me up with a text message this morning telling me to get my backside out of bed and check my mail as we are both registered carers with Carers Link and their newsletter came this morning. I was ordered to open it and read it ASAP as a little surprise was in there that would make me smile!! I got up and opened it and had a flick through and as guaranteed i came across a lovely surprise. The address for this blog has been published in the newsletter, and i would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Steph Driver and the Carers Link staff for being so supportive and making people aware of this blog because as quoted in the advertisement in the newsletter, I set this up whole blog/website up in the hope that it would be found by people in similar circumstances to let them see that they are not alone, and it's also allowed me to be able to let off steam through it as it's always good to get things off your chest.

I have been overwhelmed in the last 18 months (almost) since i set this up by the amount of emails i have received via the email address at the top of every page on this blog lending support and giving advice and just people thanking me for making them feel that there are positives that come out of living with disabled children. Your life does not have to end although at first it feels like it has, you just need to be able to find that inner strength you never realised you had and you can deal with anything that's thrown your way. Of course it helps hugely if you have people around you to help and support you and of course we still have emotions and have days where we feel we can't cope and just want to run away screaming and never come back, we are after all human and not super mom's/dad's, but my own experiences have shown me that no matter how bad a day you've had there is always a moment during that day where your friend, loved one or child even will look at you or say something that makes it all worthwhile. I won't lie everyday is a battle, but when they look up at you with them puppy dog eyes and smile so innocently then give you a hug, that alone in my case just seems to make the whole days bad bits fade away and not seem as huge as they were made out to be!!

I am one of the lucky ones who has great family support and a select group of extremely good friends, and my advice to you all would be, get out there show the world you're a proud parent NOT a victim and find as many other people as you can out there who are going through the same/similar thing and befriend them. Join every local support group you can find out there, register with your local Carers Link and all of a sudden you'll find you are NOT alone, there are other people in your area out there who do feel the same as you and know what you're going through. All you need to do is be confident, keep an open mind, have your say and make sure you're voice is heard and pretty soon you will be doing like i am now and trying to find and help as many other people as the ones who have helped you. Good luck. xXx
