Well, i was all nicely tucked up in bed ready for an early night (due to man flu LOL) when i received a text message off a friend telling me to check out the link above to an American study on Autism and peoples comments on the report. I am absolutely astonished at the naivety (i hope that's the right word I'm looking for) of researchers and people in general on this issue. It's OK saying it's this and it's that and they all showed 'signs/symptoms' of this and that BUT every child is different and develop their 'signs/symptoms' in different ways and different ages.
Taylor's head circumference at birth was only about 2/3cm smaller than Dana's was and she was 5 days late and Taylor was 3 weeks early, but i was told that it was a good size and after the rigorous tests they do after birth was handed what i was told to be a healthy baby boy and that although he was 3 weeks early he weighed a healthy 6lb 3oz and both myself any baby could go home that same day as all tests where satisfactory.
I seriously can't see as to how they can base facts on babies head circumferences at certain ages, Dana's head i was told was rather larger than it should have been around the age of 6 months old, but was still satisfactory. She is now 10yrs old and if she has had a baseball type cap on i have to make it smaller to fit my head, and going off their findings she should be in the category of ASD kids BUT is typically developed and not a trace of OCD/ADHD or ASD in sight. I also (and sorry if i offend anybody here) strongly disagree with the MMR Vaccine 'blame' if you read the comments on that page (click link above..also on that page click return to article to read the article the comments have been based on) a few people have commented about the MMR conflict and tbh i agree with them. To quote one person from the comments:
"If the MMR vaccine causes autism why doesn't every child who has received the vaccine have autism?
which i have said many times before when it's been mentioned, yes Taylor has had all of his MMR jabs and all the others too (polio, diphtheria, meningitis etc) but i noticed 'quirky signs' with Taylor before he had his first MMR like the constantly wanting to be clean and looking at you through the corner of his eyes, although unfortunately never really picked up on it as being ASD at that time. He was a huggy baby and loved being kissed and cuddled but he also took a disliking to men at one stage and would only go to women, and all that aside (I'd be here forever if i got started!!) as quoted above, in that case why is Dana not Autistic too as she is also up to date with all of her Vaccines, as are about 20 other typically developed kids that i know of (all different ages) and not a trace of ASD in sight...stupid (in MY opinion)
I probably will offend some people now, as i also think it's a ridiculous notion that ASD can be 'reversed' or 'cured' and i ain't even going to get started on that one because that is something i do feel very strongly about to be honest and would argue about until I'm blue in the face!! A percentage of me still thinks that it is genetically linked although it is still unproven in England at least. BUT an even bigger percentage of me also agrees with another comment made on that website, ASD is NOT a tragedy, yes it's hard work but it did NOT steal my son (like a lot of other people and websites insist on telling us this 'thing' does) it just simply made me realise i was blessed with a precious gift, that i would need to take extra special care of and at the same time it's made me a stronger person and made me find things within myself i never knew was there. Confidence, Patience, Strength and an overwhelming sense of pride to be his mother. xXx
