Speech and Language Strengths and Difficulties
Taylor continues to make excellent progress with all aspects of his communication.
Taylor's attention to language is greatly improving. He can listen to instructions and participate in brief conversations on topics that interest him. This is a significant development.
Taylor's comprehension of language remains somewhat delayed compared to age peers, however this is improving, and his improved attention skills will drive progress further in this area.
His expressive language has made significant progress. Currently this is at a similar level as his Comprehension. The amount of information he includes and the complexity of his sentences continues to increase.
Taylor's speech is intelligible to a listener, both in and without context.
Taylor has social communication difficulties. His attentional abilities have enabled him to make strides in this. He is more willing to engage in conversation with both adults and peers. He can focus on language that is directed to him. This will be extremely advantageous in developing his access to the curriculum within school, and wider learning in the world in general.
It is important to state however, that despite Taylor's better attention to spoken language, understanding and language use, his performance in any situation will be dependent on a number of factors, such as his willingness to participate, how comfortable he feels with the situation and his engagement at the time.
