I received a letter yesterday informing us that the Early Bird course i asked about starts in April. It runs for 12 weeks, 8 weeks of group sessions and 4 weeks of home visits. There is some more information about the course on my ASD & Us - Helpful Courses page in the links section. The sessions are 3hrs long and there has been creche facilities set up where Taylor will be with other children who are also Autistic. I am a little worried as to how he will cope in the creche with unfamiliar people and children, but also think it will do him some good to be with other children like him. My other worry is it will be too much for him as he will be in the creche from 9.30am-12.30pm then will be going straight from there to Nursery at 1pm. Other than Taylor not being a very good morning person, i think it could be too tiring for him. We will see how it goes for the first few weeks and then i will decide whether or not to continue with the course or try and make other arrangements where he can be with someone he knows and trusts (grandad for instance) I think it will be really good for him to be with other Autistic children but i don't want him getting upset or it upsetting his Nursery routine.
I am also looking forward to this course as we will finally get to meet other people in our situation and feel less alone. Hopefully meet some new friends and maybe start a support group (see how it goes first) as i am struggling to find one nearby and that is very disappointing. We have quite a few play centres nearby so providing enough people are interested we could all get together and meet there (pay the children's fee to get in) and let them play while we sit and talk etc. I would suggest them coming here from time to time as my house is a good size BUT i don't think Taylor would like that and the problem would be getting the lads out of the way too. I suppose if people were interested enough i could sort it out for them to come once a week after dinner when Taylor and possibly their kids are at Nursery, so that it would be an adults only get together. I'm getting a bit carried away now!!! I'll calm down and see what happens first.
We have to go to an information meeting on Wednesday (19th) to fill in an application form to guarantee a place on the course and secure a place in the creche.
Taylor is taking part in a Nursery sports day on Tuesday (18th) so that should be good fun to watch!!! He has raised £19 so far from friends and family. Half of the money raised is going to the Ronald McDonald House charity and the other half of the money is going towards a Nursery Prom on 19th July this yr for the kids leaving to go to school in September (Taylor's group) and i can't wait, it will be really good fun seeing them all dressed up in little prom dresses and tuxedo's!!! I won't hold my breath at Taylor wearing one but i will try my best!!!
I ordered a DVD a few weeks back called After Thomas and it came about 5 days ago. I have not yet found the time to watch it so i am really annoyed!!! There is nothing on TV tonight, Tony is watching a crap DVD in the bedroom so i think when I've finished this, i will grab some munchies and some tissues (recommended by mother!!) and sneak off downstairs to watch it while Taylor is asleep and the lads are all in their room fighting over who's turn it is on the X-Box!!! As soon as I've had chance to watch it i will blog about it in my Book & DVD Review section. xXx
