50 Bloody Quid!!!

OK i am probably going to sound like a real skin flint now but GOD DAMN it cost me £49.93p yesterday to go and get Taylor 3 school jumpers and 3 blue school t-shirts with the school logo on them. I also got Dana a new jumper too. The jumpers (even Dana's) were £7.99 each and the t-shirts were £5.99 each just because they have the school's logo on them. It's bloody pathetic. I got both of them a pack of plain white t-shirts (which they are allowed to wear) from Asda's last week and it cost me £3 for a pack of 5. I couldn't believe it. To be honest i wasn't going to bother with the ones with the logos on for Taylor and just stick to the white ones but changed my mind as he very often won't wear a jumper and all the other children will be wearing the ones with the logos on. That kind of thing really doesn't bother me but as it's Taylor i want him to 'fit in' as much as possible. I know they're only young but even kids at that age can be cruel and he has enough 'problems' to deal with other than them making fun of him because he hasn't got the proper uniform (not that he'd understand anyway)

Dana on the other hand when asked said she didn't want t-shirts with logos on them as they cost too much and she likes the plain ones as they've got a flower petal shaped collar and look prettier!!! The only thing she wanted was a coat with the school logo on and that cost me £39.99 as we got it 2 sizes to big to last her until she leaves in 2 yrs time. I looked at one for Taylor and to get one to last him until the July holiday's next yr it would have cost me £19.95p so after i picked my jaw up off the floor decided against the 'school coat' and opted for just a normal water proof coat. I haven't got him one yet as we ran out of time for shopping yesterday and for the time being he has one at home that will do. I will probably leave it now until he's gotten over his first 2 days then go the following Monday (providing he settles OK)

I know i shouldn't stay in just because he might get upset but because we are literally 2mins away from the school from our house i wanna stay in as much as i can for the first 2 weeks to give him chance to get used to it and settle down properly. He is only there from 9am-12pm to begin with. No idea yet how long it will take for him to be there a full day as they are going to take it slow with him and go by him. The usual routine is 1 morning session then 1 afternoon session then a full day (in the first 3 days) but because they're unsure of how he will settle they are going to keep him on morning sessions until they think he's ready then they are going to up it an hour (so he's there until 1pm and has his dinner there) and do that for a while then up it another hour so he's there until 2pm and so on until he's finally there a full school day (9am-3.30pm) I went to see them the other day when Dana went back and had a word with them and they said that realistically they're aiming for him to start full days after the Xmas holidays. They have a week off in October so apart from that week they're giving him plenty of time to settle down. I panicked a bit when they said about him only going until dinner time and they said not to worry it won't come back on us with the Education laws of having to have your kids in full time school because of his extra (special) needs it will be OK. Plus it's also written into his Statement that he needs extra time to settle, so it's all legal (thank god lol)

I am however going to get in touch with Ailsa (behavioural psychologist) to see about his seemingly sensory issues with school pants as he will NOT wear them yet (although not compulsory) school have took it upon themselves to tell me (in a round abouts way) that he will have to wear them. I am a bit annoyed at this as it could be a sensory thing and if it's going to cause him discomfort in any way he will refuse point blank to go to school as he will associate school with pain and I'm NOT putting him through that. So i need to seek advice from the 'professionals' and see what they have to say on the matter. We covered sensory issues on the Early Bird course we went on with Ailsa and they told us that some sensory issues kids have are with specific clothes and may feel like a itching or burning sensation on their skin, but as Taylor still doesn't fully understand these things he can;t tell us what's wrong he just takes them off and throws them at us or will refuse to put them on full stop. I know he has an issue with cotton and he had a shirt on a few months back and when we took it off him he had a rash all over his arms and it was red raw like a bad nappy rash. I know it wasn't the soap powder as i never change his (he has his own, depending which one we buy) so it must have been the cotton. I am going to ring Ailsa on Monday and see if i can get an appointment with her before he goes to school on Thursday although it's not that important to have him with us, but if i can see her before he starts i can explain to school the reasons why i am unwilling to force him into wearing them and have them back me up. At the moment to them i probably just seem like a fussy parent!! I will update on Monday when i know what's happening. Enjoy your weekend. xXx
