Autism Awareness
Please put this on your Facebook status or Blog if you know someone (or are related to someone) who has AUTISM. My wish for 2010 is that people will understand that autism is not a disease; people with autism are not looking for a cure but for ACCEPTANCE ...... 93% won't Copy and Paste this, will YOU make this your status for at least one hour?
Good message Minxy,
ReplyDeleteAs a parent with two kids (5yr old with ASD)I've recently been blogging about learning, understanding and accepting autism.
There's lots of information out there, some good and some bad.
Good luck with your blog and research.
There are some great resources for moms/dads with ASD children at BTR/BlogTalkRadio...just search on autism.
ReplyDeleteReading about your boy reminded me of how we responded to our ten year old, who learned to walk after we put him on a horse...Jonathan never spoke our language, and some of the eXperts said he might be autistic; but he remained affectionate and loved to be held, which was contrary to the standard behavior for ASD...trust your boy to help you understand his gifts; and GoD BLESS you and your husband for resisting pills and potions!
Email me anytime, and I hope you find support for parents and that your boy finds friends who just accept him as unique. There are studies on how far advanced these children become in spiritual gifts and talents, in spite of the machine mentalists who want to invent cookie cutter children! These special kids can help us save the planet, if they are left alone and can grow up without being poked and prodded, even by loving parents.
My son Jonathan was never expected to live...malformed at birth, they question if the mother used drugs? Not the mother. Then when he defied them by surviving countless surgeries the first two years they said he would never learn to sit up...until he did that about the age of five! Then the experts said he would never walk or stand...until he did that as well, after we found ways to challenge him, by making him less than comfortable to just lie there on his back and wait to be fed or changed! So when our healthy second son prayed that his brother would learn to walk, we began to study that and were even shown in dreams that Jonathan would learn to walk, so we found that if he held on to daddy's fingers we would toddle along; if you held his hand he would pull away and down he went! So after a group of people in our community saw a need for horse riding therapy, we made that happen, and found that Jonathan loved being on the horses! Who knew?? Within four months he was standing and in february 1994 he walked by himself at his school, and the ladies in the office called to tell us the news...so our dream came true, and the whole community rejoiced to learn and witness his progress. What we didnt know from the dreams about him crawling into our bed as a toddler stage was that his diaper would be sopping wet!
Help your son set goals and involve the whole family in the goals that he sets for himself; he will work hardest to reach the goals that he sets for himself.
Thank you both so very much for your comments. I am just so very sorry I somehow managed to miss them. I hope you are both well xXx
